The Art Museum of the Americas is part of the world's oldest regional organization, The Organization of American States. The museum regularly presents changing exhibits. While the museum exhibitions, collections, and educational programs focus on the visual arts of all the member countries, there is a special emphasis on Latin America and the Carribean. The museum collection includes 20th Century art by many artists including: Amelia Pelaez, Joaquin Torres-Garcia, Emilio Pettoruti, Candido Portinari, Roberto Matta, Pedro Figari, Alejendro Obregon, Fernando de Szyzlo, Maria Luisa Pacheco and Jesus Soto. The building that houses the museum was designed by architect Paul Cret. The Spanish colonial style-buildinga served as the official residence of OAS secretaries until 1968. |
